Charcuterie Definition

The word Charcuterie originated in France, and it translates into “pork butcher shop”. The modern-day charcuterie boards include many other types of meat even though the original French translation refers only to pork. Generally, any type of cured meat sausages, pates, and mousses are used. Beef, Duck, Turkey, and exotic meats like antelope and bison are popular today. Boards also offer other foods like a variety of cheeses, crackers, fruit, nuts, pickled vegetables, and dips. In France, the cook who prepares the meat is called a Charcutier. The English pronunciation of charcuterie is “shar-coo-tree”.
